H.E. Mr. Simmu Tiik, Estonian Ambassador to Norway and Colonel Raul Tonnov, the Estonian Defence Attaché, visited the Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) on Thursday, 11 December.

On arrival, the delegation was greeted by the U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Roger H. Watkins, JWC Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff, and Norwegian Air Force Brigadier General Jon Ragnar Krogstad, Special Advisor to the Commander.

Following an office call with Brigadier General Watkins, the delegation was escorted to the Leiv Eiriksson room where they received an overview JWC mission brief. Brigadier General Watkins said JWC and Estonia established a strong strategic partnership based on mutual trust and mutual benefit and he thanked the Ambassador for his country’s excellent support to NATO’s Article 5 Collective Defence exercises from STEADFAST JUNCTURE 12 through to TRIDENT LANCE 14. The visit also provided an opportunity for the delegation to observe the ongoing exercise TRIDENT LANCE 14 (TRLE 14), in which NATO takes action against the wilful violation of Estonia’s international border by a fictional country, based on the SKOLKAN exercise scenario. The official visit programme continued with exercise-focused briefings, including a briefing on JWC’s CAX simulation and Opposing Forces (OPFOR) capabilities, a visit to TRLE 14 White Cell and JWC’s live broadcast studio.

Mr. Simmu Tiik took on his assignment as the Estonian Ambassador to Norway in 2012.
