Visit AirChiefMarshalUK small1The Chief of the Defence Staff of the British Armed Forces, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach GBE KCB ADC DL, visited NATO’s Joint Warfare Centre on Friday, 4 May 2018.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, the most senior military officer in the United Kingdom’s Armed Forces, was elected new Chairman of the NATO Military Committee and is due to take over from Czech Army General Petr Pavel, the current Chairman, on 29 June 2018.

The official visit in Stavanger began with a bilateral meeting between Air Chief Marshal Peach and Polish Army Major General Andrzej Reudowicz, Commander Joint Warfare Centre (JWC). Following their meeting, Colonel Neil Wright, Deputy Chief of Staff of the JWC’s Exercise, Training and Innovation Directorate, outlined in a mission briefing the Joint Warfare Centre’s roles and responsibilities as the premier training establishment of the NATO Alliance at the Operational-level. The visit programme included a guided tour of the facilities, where Air Chief Marshal Peach was briefed by leadership and staff on a wide range of topics, including the Centre's core exercise functions such as the Opposing Forces (OPFOR) and the White Cell organizations, the state-of-the art Modeling and Simulation systems and exercise media simulation capabilities and training.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach joined the Royal Air Force in 1977. His earlier assignments include NATO Air Commander (Forward) in KFOR Headquarters in Kosovo and UK Director of Electronic Warfare in support of NATO. He served as Director General Intelligence in the Ministry of Defence between 2003 and 2006, and also held the titles of Chief of Defence Intelligence and Deputy Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee from 2006 to 2009, holding the UK seat at the NATO Intelligence Board. Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach also commanded all UK Force Elements in support of NATO operations in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya. 

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach assumed the role of Chief of the Defence Staff on 14 July 2016.
