TRJR17 X0A7039 THMExercise TRIDENT JAGUAR 2017 (TRJR17) commenced in Novo Selo Training Area, Bulgaria, and the Joint Warfare Centre (JWC), Norway, on Wednesday 8 March 2017.

Sponsored by Headquarters, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (HQ SACT) and directed by the JWC, TRJR17 will train and assess the joint operational combat readiness of Rapid Reaction Corps France (RRC FR), commanded by French Army Lieutenant General Thierry Corbet.

TRJR17 is a NATO Force Structure (NFS) Commmand Post/Computer Assisted Exercise (CPX/CAX) that focuses on the process of planning and conducting a Land-heavy Small Joint Crisis Response Operation in a Non-Article 5 setting, based on the fictitious “Skolkan 2.0” scenario, created and developed by the JWC.

The aim of the exercise is to train, evaluate and certify RRC FR to serve as a NATO Force Structure Joint Task Force Headquarters (JTF HQ) for the 2017 stadby period.

TRJR17 is focused on building RRC FR’s ability to respond to crisis in today’s complex and evolving combat environment. Some of the key themes of the high-intensity exercise centers on operational level command and control, crisis resolution, maritime security and air support, cyber, chemical, biologicial and radiological threats, logistic support, Strategic Communications, civil-military interaction and the Comprehensive Approach.

TRJR17 provides very realistic training opportunities for the RRC FR in a dynamic exercise environment together with its NATO-tasked Air, Maritime and Special Operations Component Commands; the 4th French Airmobile Brigade, the 6th French Light Armoured Brigade and the 4th Canadian Mechanized Brigade as well as the Force Logistics Command HQ serving as the exercise Joint Logistic Support Group (JLSG).

Simultaneously, TRJR17 also provides a great opportunity to demonstrate interoperability between NATO Allies across participating NATO Force Structure headquarters, allowing them to train as they would fight.

Exercise TRJR17 is directed by Polish Army Major General Andrzej Reudowicz, Commander Joint Warfare Centre.

JWC is NATO’s premier collective training and exercise facility at the operational level. In addition to its robust, highly realistic and demanding training, JWC conducts joint and combined capability integration, concept and doctrine development in order to improve NATO’s operational readiness and interoperability.
