QX0A6020 societalconf17thumbThe 14th Societal Safety Conference (Samfunnssikkerhetskonferansen 2017) was held at the University of Stavanger (UiS) on Wednesday, 4 January 2017.

“Do we have to learn to live with the fear of terrorism?” was chosen as the main theme of this year’s conference in light of the changing security environment and terrorism becoming one of the most serious security challenges for European societies following devastating major terrorist attacks in many cities including Istanbul, Berlin, Nice, Paris and Brussels.

Special topics of the conference included terror threats and assessments, root causes of terrorism as well as risk management and societal security challenges, right-wing extremism, and perceptions and attitudes towards terrorism and the role of media.

Conducted in Norwegian, Lieutenant General Morten Haga Lunde, Head of the Norwegian Intelligence Service, gave one of the keynote speeches at the conference.

Samfunnssikkerhetskonferansen 2017 was jointly organized by the County Governor of Rogaland, the University of Stavanger, Stavanger University Hospital, the Rogaland Police District and the Joint Warfare Centre (JWC).
