cosgerarmy1The Chief of Staff of the German Army, Lieutenant General Bruno Kasdorf, visited NATO's Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) on Tuesday, 26 August.

The visit programme included an office call with German Army Major General Erhard Buehler, Commander JWC, and a series of briefings and meetings with senior officers about the current activities of the Centre. Also discussed were the Centre’s key role within NATO’s complex exercise and training programme set out for the next four years, its Training Team composition, as well as a detailed Computer Assisted Exercise (CAX) overview, complete with detailed simulations created by the JWC staff. 

The official visit also included a comprehensive briefing on media simulation at the JWC’s live broadcast studio and a guided tour of the training facilities. During the tour, Lieutenant General Kasdorf had the opportunity to observe the JWC-run Exercise Planning Course (EPC)/Operational Level Planning Course (OLPC), a first-ever internal training event that aims to train the new JWC staff in operational level planning.IMG 7705 cosgerar

“The knowledge of NATO’s Operational Level Planning Process (OPP) is essential to each member of the JWC staff in order to contribute to the delivery of joint, warfare-focused exercises,” said Austrian Army Lieutenant Colonel Markus Schilcher, a Joint Planning Subject Matter Expert at the JWC, adding: “Our secondary aim in running this course is to train the newcomers on the SKOLKAN scenario as well as prepare them for their upcoming assignments in exercise TRIDENT JUNCTURE 14, which will be executed in November this year.”

Lieutenant General Kasdorf concluded his visit to the JWC by addressing the German contingent assigned to the Centre.
